This is a 25 year old outline that I have decided to reintroduce to my line of shapes under the name Glass Love Fish as it’s the outline Garth Dickenson rode in @andrewkidman s film Glass Love.
It’s interesting to go back and use classic old templates and adapt what you can from then to the now. Classic is classic.

Little 6,0 winged swallowtail twin plus mini trailer keel. Custom handshaped and crafted for James up in Ulladulla.

So this here is an early/first generation Sidecut

So this here is an early/first generation Sidecut Fish I shaped for Garth Dickenson 20 odd years ago when I was just starting my sidecut journey.
It was shaped from a paper template my brother in law Peter Woods @_out_of_the_woods_ did for me from a Skip Frye fish Tom Curren was holding and riding at Albatross Jeffrey’s Bay way back.
He scanned and printed it out at his place of work at the time which was of a graphic designer.

The template ended up with a small incut/sidecut in the last say 6 to 10 inches or so which when drawn up on a blank looked quite good so that coupled with my snowsurfing is how the Sidecut journey started for me.
That and my recollections of Rodney Balls master shapes and Dimitrije Milovich,s original Winterstick snowboard from 1976.
This picture is of original art by @andrewkidman and is a post of his promoting a show he is doing up in Murwillumbah on the far North Coast of NSW on the 16th of November.
The board is featured in his classic film Glass Love which will be the first film to run at the show.

Flextails with glassed on Mackie Designed thruster mini keels by @true_ames these fins work real well for nice smooth arcs with plenty of drive yet still giving that bit of performance that thrusters provide.

Double concaved engine room section on a winged swallowtail twin plus mini keeled trailer style board custom handcrafted. The other roughed out blanks up on the wall are some special projects I am working on shortly and are all eps blanks to be glassed in epoxy with a mix of composite materials to arrive at some top end boards.

This one is set up as a quad but could be ridden as a single,twin,twin plus trailer,twinzer or even a thruster. There’s no rules remember.

Little custom 5,10 Sidecut Fish for Kaito.
On this one I have gone back to using my original Sidecut Fish template from 1998 and adjusted the sidecut through the back third by making it a bit longer than the original to get it up to speed.
It was shaped out of one of the original kneeboards fish blanks @surfblanksaustralia that Midget Farrelly designed and made way back when the fish thing got popular again in the mid to late nineties. They are great blanks to shape fish from due to his brilliant design skills and nice to go back to after all these years. Thanks Midget!

A 9,0 Sidecut Round Square I shaped for Boots Garrard while I was down @joymillsurfboards in Victoria.
This design is intended to do long drawn out carves something that is possible down there and something Boots is well capable of.
The other shot is just something I noticed outside the shaping room after a passing shower.
Nature is so complex and simple at the same time!

Personal 8,0 Sidecut Round Square mini keeled thru

Personal 8,0 Sidecut Round Square mini keeled thruster with a standard 6 and 4 ounce glass mixed with a layer of Kevlar to form the flextail.
This one was half shaped here in Bega NSW then transported to @joymillsurfboards in Torquay Victoria then finish shaped,glassed and finished at JoyMill over the last two weeks while I was there shaping and testing my stuff in some great waves.
Big thanks to my friends there at JoyMill for their help and support while down there.
Great group of individuals working together as a team to produce some excellent quality surfboards from start to finish.

New 8,0 Sidecut Round Square getting laminated @jo

New 8,0 Sidecut Round Square getting laminated @joymillsurfboards by @kentafergusson and test track area.
I have been riding a 9,0 Sidecut Round Square flextail with glassed on thruster mini keels on which I tried a new style of flex by cutting a slot around the side and back of the rear fin to allow more flex but this prototype style flex has proven tricky as it has cracked twice now and I have now repaired and strengthened it again and will see what happens to it over the next couple of days/sessions.
A bit of test sessioning down here in Victoria has been great to see what goes on with this style of flextail as far as load and release strength ratios.
Somewhat of a learning curve.
